I was in my corner office on the 55th floor of the JC Penny Building in New York City on the evening of November 2, 1965. Our lights went out at 5pm and it was fascinating watching lights in the buildings go out in rapid sequence.
Because of all of the disruption in Manhattan, I decided that it might be easier to get out of the City on the east side instead of the west. Good decision. Got to the George Washington Bridge much more quickly than I thought I would, drove up through New Jersey to the Tappan Zee Bridge across the Hudson River. Once on the east side of the river it was relatively straight forward to drive back to Westport.
