Art

Who I was home with an illness, my mother would give me old Christmas cards. I then made constructions using the colored parts of the cards. I found this more entertaining than drawing with colored pencils, etc.

I also was very fortunate in having my own workshop above the garage in what had been a separate servant’s quarters building, at the end of our driveway. I had a work table and during the war would make airplane models and create diorama of dogfights. the little airplane models woful hang on strings suspended from the ceiling. I could entertain myself for hours building models.

I particularly enjoyed painting and decorating the model store look like their real-life counterparts.

Fortunately I never became addicted to smelling the “dope’, as the paint was called.
