Though I was musically inclined and enjoyed singing, I never successfully conquered a musical instrument. We tried, my mother and me, and it was a joint effort! For a couple of years, I took piano from Helen Fraser, a local teacher. I practiced but it never came together.
One Sunday I was performing in a recital and messed up some notes. My response was a loud ”Oops” and back to the keyboard…
Finally, one day Mrs. Fraser took my mother aside and told her: “Constance, he doesn’t have it; you are wasting your money”. My mother took her advice; I was relieved.
I tried guitar a few times and never could get it together. I deemed myself a musical failure.
Same results in typing. Who fails typing? I did.
Finally, in my 60s, I figured it out! I am a dyslexic and unable to coordinate my fingers and brain! One finger hunting and pecking is it for me. Also relief that I am not a complete dork, just an uncoordinated one…
